Tony’s New Job

No one seems to think Tony is good enough to be hired! What should he do?

No one seems to think Tony is good enough to be hired! What should he do?

Tony the turtle wanted to look for a job. While walking on the streets, he saw a recruitment advertisement.

“Postman Needed!” It reads. “Being a postman sounds fun. I am sure I can do it well.” He thought. Tony decided to sign up. He came to the post office to register for the job.

When he entered the office, he noticed Wally the Kangaroo applying for the same postman job. Fortunately, both of them were given the job. The supervisor gave them their postman hat and a huge bag of letters to deliver the next day.

Early the next morning, Tony and Wally set out to deliver the letters. Wally was agile and hopped fast. Within just half a day, he finished almost hundreds of letters. However, Tony crawled slowly to deliver the letters. No matter how fast he tried to crawl, he only managed to deliver two letters.

In the evening, Tony and Wally returned to the post office. Wally’s bag was empty, but Tony’s bag still had a big bulge of letters. The supervisor looked at Tony in disappointment. He said to him, “Sorry, we cannot continue hiring you as you are too slow. Please look for a job elsewhere.” Tony felt upset but nodded his head and left.

“I will definitely find a job,” Tony told himself as he stepped out.

Tony was deep in his thoughts when he heard someone calling out, “Hey Tony! Tony!” The sound of his name jostled him back to reality and he turned behind. It was his neighbour, Monty the monkey.

“What happened Tony? I called you a few times before you responded. Did something happen?” Monty asked. Tony replied, “I was thinking about what kind of job I should go for, as I was told I was too slow to be a postman.”

“How about trying out to be a firefighter?” Monty suggested. “I was about to go to the fire station to sign up as the fire brigade announced they are recruiting! Join me!” Monty proposed. Tony hesitated for a while and then said, “Ok, let’s go!”

Both came to the fire brigade and signed up for the job. The captain announced, “To be officially on our team, you must pass an exam. We will assess to see if you will be selected to join us.”

Each of them was given a small bucket of water. Everyone was excited while anticipating how the exam would be carried out. Suddenly, a loud fire alarm abruptly went off. Hana, the little chick’s treehouse is on fire! The captain ordered Tony and Monty to go up to the tree to put out the fire.

Tony attempted to climb the tree; however, his limbs were too short and he failed to reach out to the branches or grab onto the tree bark. Before he could do anything, his bucket of water spilled all over the ground and became empty. Monty, on the other hand, leaped onto the tree and swung from branch to branch swiftly and stealthily. In no time at all, he extinguished the fire.

The captain shook his head and turned to Tony, “The exam is over. Sorry, Monty can stay but you need to go. Please seek another job elsewhere.”

“I’ll definitely find a job,” Tony assured himself, as he returned the red bucket to the captain.

Ever since that day, no one knows where the little turtle went.

Soon after, there was a newly opened amusement park filled with interesting rides and games. Everyone in town was eager to visit the place. Wally, Monty, Captain, and the supervisor all came to the amusement park. There was a super long queue at their most popular underwater adventure ride. Curious, all four of them went to take a look at how the ride was. Just then, someone exclaimed, “Hey that’s Tony the turtle!”

It turned out, Tony became the most famous underwater rider in the park. Everyone could not wait to take his ride to explore the mini ocean.

Tony the turtle finally found a job most suitable for him. He loved what he is doing now and felt truly happy.

Dear children, do not give up even if you are rejected many times. It has nothing to do with you. It is simply not suitable for you, maybe it is not the right time, or perhaps you need to improve your skillsets. You will eventually find something that you love to do and excel in.

Never Give Up.
